The Uncommon Man

R K Laxman's cartoons held a mirror up to the changing times of India everyday for decades. Corruption, political doublespeak, angst of the helpless householder, pearls of wisdom from the pavement pauper - all found expression in Laxman's Rekhas.

His style of wielding the fundamental right to freedom of expression to expose every man's hypocrisy is a study in political and social satire, sans the sting. His brush strokes always spoke more eloquently than columns of newsprint. The trademark subtle, tongue-in-cheek wit was so endearing that a nation learnt to laugh at itself, alongside Laxman.

An uncommon man indeed!
