Debate on MTP

Recently there was this debate on MTP in Vijay TV’s Neeyaa Naanaa programme.

My two cents:

பல பேர் ஒரு விதமாய் வாதம் செய்கிறார்கள்- I mean the ones against MTP even in cases diagnosed with congenital abnormalities -நல்ல விதமாய் பிறந்து சில வருடங்கள் கழித்து எதாவது விபத்து நேர்ந்து அதனால் அந்த குழந்தைக்கு கை, கால், புத்தி சுவாதீனம் இல்லாமல் போனால் அப்போ நாம் லட்சம் லட்சம் ஆனாலும் செலவு பண்ணி வைத்யம் பார்க்க மாட்டோமா என்று.விதியை நொந்தாலும் இப்போ நிலைமையை சமாளிக்க முயல்பவர்கள் ஏன் அதே போல் எப்போ எப்படிப்பட்ட குழந்தை பிறந்தாலும் சமாளிக்கக் கூடாது என்று… 

இப்படி விதியை துணைக்கு அழைப்பவர்கள் விதிப்படி குழந்தை எப்படியோ பிறந்தாயிற்று, அது தன் விதிப்படி எப்படியோ வளர்ந்து விட்டு போகட்டும் என்று விட்டு விடுவார்களா? அது டாக்டர் ஆக வேண்டும், engineer ஆக வேண்டும்,டான்ஸ் ஆடணும், கிரிக்கெட் ஆடணும் என்று ஓடி ஓடி tuition கிளாஸ் , ஹாபி கிளாஸ் என்று ஏன் அலைகிறார்கள்? உடம்புக்கு சுகம் இல்லை என்றால் தெய்வ சங்கல்பம் என்று விட வேண்டியதுதானே , ஏன் டாக்டரிடம் ஓடுகிறார்கள்? விதியை மதியால் வெல்லலாம் என்று தானே? அதே மதியை ஆரம்பத்திலேயே உபயோகித்தால் என்ன பிழை? 

மேலும் in case of complications when either the mother or the baby alone can be saved the choice is heavily tilted in favour of the mother-how can one justify that choice? உயிரிலே சின்ன உயிரென்ன பெரிய உயிரென்ன-அப்பொழுது எந்த நீதி சாஸ்திரம் இது உயிர்கொலை இல்லை என்கின்றது?

  அதுவும் இந்தியா போன்ற ஆணாதிக்கம் நிறைந்த நாட்டில்  MTP யை legalize செய்தது ஒரு வரப்ரசாதம் பல பெண்களுக்கு-கரு உருவாவதற்கு அன்றி வேறு எந்த ஒரு விஷயத்திற்கும் ஆதாரமாகவோ ஆதரவாகவோ இருக்க ஆண் மகன் முன் வராத குடும்பங்களில் ஒரு பெண், குழந்தையை சுமப்பதற்கும் அதை பெற்றெடுத்து வளர்ப்பதற்கும் படும் இன்னல்கள் பாரத்தால் தெரியாது, அனுபவித்தால் தான் தெரியும். 

One should aim at bringing forth a member of the society, not just a number in the society.The society which cries foul at MTP- how supportive is it if the family suffers economic, social, medical,educational or occupational hurdles- what is the society’s contribution towards providing education to dyslexic or autistic children, towards making buses, trains, buildings accessible to wheelchair ridden citizens, towards accepting and rehabilitating the differently abled- one can go on..It’s one thing to mouth ‘holier than thou’ sermons and it’s another to actually step out and offer succour or fight for changes..
