Kudos to the hazaaron Annas who are lending support to the Jan Lokpal
Bill by holding candles, donning ‘Anna’ caps proclaiming ‘I am Anna’,
shouting slogans and even bunking classes and offices as in the case of
some.While it is heartening to see such participation for a legitimate
cause, it would be worthwhile if we citizens would act on our own too,
without waiting for the government or anybody else to ‘act’, to make
this world a better place for you and me. To begin with, is it too much
to expect that we should stand in queue while boarding a bus or a local
train; not litter public places or spit anywhere and everywhere;
practise eco-friendly measures; reduce noise pollution while celebrating
religious festivals; follow traffic rules on overtaking, one way,
pedestrian crossings,speed limits… the list can go on.It is about time
that we become the change that we want to see. People have this attitude
‘holier than thou’ just because they are showing solidarity with Anna.
Espousing a legitimate cause alone doen’t make one a saint, nor dissent,
a sinner. I am totally against Anna’s mule-like obstinacy of ‘either
it’s my way or the highway’. I am labelled a devil’s advocate for taking
a different stand by some acquaintances here.
